Oxford Fun Run – Saturday 7th May 2011 |
Oxford Fun Run – Saturday 7th May 2011 Thanks to all students and staff members who took part in Saturday's charity fun run at University Parks! In spite of waking up to the heaviest downpours of rain over Oxford for weeks, the team of 11 representing Magna Carta College were not put off by the grey clouds overhead and were ready to take on the 5km run. After a quick warm-up in authentic Zumba style the run set off shortly after 11am to a highly welcomed dry and sunny sky. With the current finishing time of 18 minutes there for the beating the Magna Carta Team were up against a tough challenge to set a new Fun Run record. Two laps of the course and 23 minutes later our star runner Shafeeque Ali crossed the finishing line, completing the course as one of the fastest runners of this year's event. Shafeeque did himself and Magna Carta proud, and in a post-run interview I asked him what his secret was to success: “I don't do any regular fitness training - just everyday walking to stay fit. I am very happy to be the winning runner for Magna Carta, but my inspiration behind participating in the event was to do something for charity, as part of my College's team.” It was a great morning for Magna Carta College thanks again to all those who entered!
